Woman reports being struck on head on Capital Crescent trail in Bethesda

A 21-year-old woman said she was struck in the head from behind while jogging Sunday evening on the Capital Crescent trail in the Bethesda area, Montgomery County police said.

According to police, she had stopped while deer crossed the trail about a half-mile south of Massachusetts Avenue when she was hit and knocked out.

She said that after regaining consciousness she found herself in woods just off the trail.

She was taken to a hospital for treatment of a head wound, and the incident was under investigation, said Capt. Paul Starks, the county police spokesman.

Attacks on the trail in that area are rare; the section is some distance from a tunnel in downtown Bethesda where three attempted robberies were reported this year.
