3 wounded in 2 shootings in Southeast Washington

December 1, 2012

One shot fired on a Southeast Washington street Saturday night struck a man in the leg. Another went through the door of a house and hit a 4-year-old boy in the hand, D.C. police said.

Each victim was taken to a hospital after the gunfire, which occurred about 8 p.m. in the 1200 block of Savannah Place SE, just south of the St. Elizabeths Hospital campus. It appeared that neither suffered a life-threatening wound, police said. No motive was known.

No connection could be learned between the victims, although the man was outside the boy’s house when he was shot, authorities said.

Earlier in the evening, a youth was shot on Birney Place SE, a few blocks south of the Anacostia Metro station. He apparently walked there in search of help.
