9-year-old boy robbed of cellphone

A 9-year-old boy was robbed of his cellphone as he was walking home from school in the Laurel area of Anne Arundel County on Friday, but he did not give it up easily, authorities said.

The incident occurred just after 3 p.m. at the intersection of Red Clay Road and Old Annapolis Road, authorities said. Police said in a news release that the boy was walking when a male in his late teens approached and asked for the time.

The boy pulled out his phone to check, police said, and the male grabbed it. The boy, though, did not immediately let go, police said. The two struggled over the phone until the boy eventually lost his grip and fell, police said.

Police said the boy was uninjured. His attacker got away.
