After Redskins game, a rash of armed robberies

It’s widely believed that life in Washington comes to a halt during a big Redskins game and resumes quickly afterward. Considering that crime is part of life, there may be something to that belief.

Hours went by Sunday afternoon and evening without any reports of robberies in the District. But in the first hour or so after the game ended, D.C. police reported three holdups, all involving guns.

At about 7:50 p.m., a robbery was reported in the 4400 block of Texas Avenue SE.

Within five or 10 minutes, another armed robbery was reported, in the 4400 block of Douglas Street NE.

And around 8:30., four people in ski masks carried out a robbery at 23rd Street and Alabama Avenue SE. Police said one of them had a gun.

An arrest was made in the first of the robberies, the police said.
