Alexandria appoints Robert C. Dubé as new fire chief

Alexandria has appointed Robert C. Dubé as its new fire chief, several months after Adam K. Thiel moved to Richmond for a position in state government.

Dubé comes from the small central Virginia county of Louisa, where he served as county administrator and before that as fire chief. He previously worked as a deputy fire chief and emergency manager in Clearwater, Fla., and he began his career as a firefighter and emergency medical technician in Fairfax County.

Andrew D. Snead has served as interim fire chief since Thiel was appointed deputy secretary of Veterans Affairs and Homeland Security in the administration of Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D).

In a statement, City Manager Rashad Young said Dubé’s “broad experience in organizations of all sizes, and his work as a firefighter, fire chief, administrator, and emergency manager will help us continue the proud tradition of our exceptional fire department.”
