Armed robbery at Old Town Alexandria store, customer grazed by bullet

Police are looking for armed robbers who held up a supermarket in Old Town Alexandria Sunday night.

The robbery occurred at a Safeway store in the 500 block of S. Royal Street, Alexandria police said. A customer was “grazed” by a bullet, police said, but they would not say where the man was struck. He was treated at an area hospital and released.

The suspects are men and were masked at the time of the incident, according to Ashley Hildebrandt, a spokeswoman for the Alexandria police department.

A United States Park Police helicopter participated in the immediate search for the robbers, police said. Police did not release any other details about robbers or the robbery.
