Body of missing Fairfax man found near creek
By Martin Weil,
The body of a 64-year-old man who wandered away from his Fairfax County home last month was found Sunday near a creek. Police said the man, who had Alzheimer’s disease, apparently drowned accidentally.
Mohammad Sharif Yazdani, who lived in the 3800 block of Havenwood Place in southeastern Fairfax County, was last seen by relatives at home on Oct. 24, police said.
In an alert issued the next day, police said that Yazdani “may appear to be confused and disoriented.” Family members searched and made public appeals.
His body was found by someone walking along a creek near Audubon Meadow Way, police said. The wooded site is about three-quarters of a mile from Yazdani’s home.
Police said they did not think there were any signs of foul play related to his death. They said the medical examiner’s office made a preliminary determination of accidental drowning.
It was not clear how long his body was there.
