Bottle bomb reported in Prince George’s county movie theater; no one injured

Prince George’s County police and fire officials are investigating a small explosion that occurred inside a movie theater early Sunday morning in Largo.

At 1:40 a.m. police and fire units responded to a call of a reported explosion at the AMC Magic Johnson movies in theater 11. Assistant Fire Chief Paul Gomez said that authorities determined that a pressurized device had exploded inside a late showing of “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” Gomez said that the device, a so-called bottle bomb, is the result of a chemical reaction that creates massive amounts of pressure, which creates an explosion.

He said that the theater had already been evacuated by the time authorities arrived and that there were no reported injuries. Gomez said that the fire marshal’s office is investigating the incident.

This is the second time in recent days that authorities have responded to bottle bomb incident in a movie theater. Last weekend, police responded to the AMC Tysons Corner 16 after two soda bottle bombs exploded during a late showing of the new “Godzilla” movie.
