Police have arrested a 58-year-old D.C. man who they say robbed an Alexandria post office by implying that he was armed, authorities said Tuesday.
Darryl Franks is charged with robbery in connection with the Jan. 10 incident at the post office in the 1900 block of Mount Vernon Avenue, authorities said. He was arrested last week in D.C. and is being held while he awaits extradition to Virginia, authorities said.
Police said a masked Franks demanded money and implied he had a weapon as he robbed the post office about 4:15 p.m. A clerk turned over some cash, and Franks left, authorities said.
Crystal Nosal, an Alexandria police spokeswoman, said investigators obtained a description of the vehicle the man was driving and used license plate readers in their effort to apprehend him. She declined to be more specific. A spokesman for the U.S. Postal Inspection Service said investigators received tips after offering a reward.
No one was hurt in the robbery, and no mail was affected, authorities said.
