D.C. police investigate fatal shooting in Congress Heights neighborhood

A 24-year-old man was shot and killed Tuesday night in Southeast Washington’s Congress Heights neighborhood, D.C. police said.

The victim was identified as James Edward Booker, of Southeast. Police said Booker was shot multiple times while standing in the 3200 block of 6th Street. He apparently ran to the 500 block of Alabama Avenue, where he was found by police.

Authorities said Booker died at a local hospital.

Police are asking anyone with information to call 202-727-9099 or text the department’s tip line at 50411. A reward up to $25,000 is being offered to anyone with information leading to an arrest and conviction.
