Drive-by shooting on 7th Street NW in D.C. wounds one man

D.C. police are investigating a Friday morning drive-by shooting on 7th Street NW that wounded one man.

Lt. Joe Trippi said a shooter, possibly riding in a sedan, drove up and fired at a man in the 1200 block of 7th Street NW around 3:30 a.m.

Trippi said the victim suffered a minor injury.

D.C. police also said another man who was shot Wednesday night in Northeast Washington has died.

He was identified by authorities as Dexter Motley, 25, of Southeast.

Police said Motley and another man were struck by gunfire about 9:30 p.m. at 46th Place and Central Avenue Northeast. One victim was found about a block away from the shooting scene, and was not seriously injured. Motley was gravely wounded and died Thursday at an area hospital, police said.

On the night of the shooting, police said four people had been shot at that location. Authorities later corrected that account, saying the two other victims were shot several blocks away, in the 1000 block of 48th Street NE, about 10 minutes after the shooting on 46th Place. Police said they now believe the two shootings are not related.
