Driver suffers medical emergency, crashes car, police say

A man who suffered a medical emergency while driving Tuesday died after he crashed his station wagon in Seat Pleasant, authorities said.

At about 10:25 a.m., officers responded to a call for a vehicle collision at Central Avenue and Addison Road, Prince George’s police spokesman Officer Harry Bond said.

As the man driving the station wagon was traveling eastbound on Central Avenue, he attempted to turn left onto Addison Road, Bond said.

“That’s when the driver suffered some sort of medical emergency, causing a head-on collision with a tow truck that was at the light,” Bond said.

It is unclear whether the man died as a result of the medical emergency or the crash, Bond said. A passenger in the station wagon and the driver of the tow truck both appear to be unhurt.

The intersection has been closed and will likely remain so past noon, Bond said.
