Prince George’s County authorities say an autopsy of the man found dead in a burning Bowie home late Wednesday must be completed before they can determine the cause of the fatal house fire.
Firefighters were called to the 6400 block of Grendel Place shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday after receiving reports of a burning two-story home, county fire spokesman Assistant Fire Chief Paul Gomez said. When they arrived, a man was found dead on the second floor of the house.
Ammunition went off as crews were trying to clear the house and put out the fire, Gomez said, but initially there doesn’t appear to be foul play or anything unusual about the incident. The person in the home probably “just had it,” Gomez said of the ammunition that went off.
Fire officials have not yet released the identity of the man as they’re still trying to notify family members of his death, Gomez said.
