Groping in Fairfax County may be serial attacker’s 14th

By ,

A woman was grabbed from behind Thursday evening in Fairfax County in what police said might have been the 14th in a series of similar sexual assaults.

The Thursday evening incident occurred in the Springfield area, near where many of the other incidents occurred. It was the second of the day, and the third of the week.

Police said a 43-year-old woman was walking in the 6000 block of Hibbling Avenue at about 5:45 p.m. Thursday when a man grabbed her from behind and touched her. She turned and yelled at him, and he fled, police said.

The first of Thursday’s two incidents occurred about 9 a.m. as a 24-year-old woman was walking on Floyd Avenue near Erving Street. Police said a man ran up behind her, fondled her and fled. The site is less than a half-mile from the Hibbling Avenue location.

The week’s first incident was about two miles to the west, but the circumstances were similar.
