The judge who presided this year in one of the Washington area’s deadliest mass shooting cases was held up at gunpoint last week, according to authoritative accounts.
Judge Ronna L. Beck of the D.C. Superior Court was robbed along with two other people Aug. 3 on a Northwest Washington street, according to a knowledgeable source who spoke on condition of anonymity. No injuries were reported.

D.C. police declined to identify the victims of the robbery in question but said it occurred about 11:50 p.m. in the 1700 block of Crittenden Street NW.
The judge and her companions had attended the Citi Open tennis tournament about a half-mile away at the stadium in Rock Creek Park at 16th and Kennedy Streets NW.
Two robbers, one with a handgun, apparently approached from behind, police said. After taking property, they fled in a car.
There was no indication the robbers had any idea that one of their victims was a judge.
Beck surrendered her purse, which contained cash, along with car keys and a judge’s badge.
Property, including the badge but not the cash, was found later, the source said.
Beck presided in the trial of five men charged in a series of attacks in the District in early 2010 that left five people dead and eight wounded.
The men were convicted May 7 after a two-month trial.
