The 31-year-old were wounded in a 2010 shooting that left three people dead. His mother, Lavenia Attaway, has seen a great deal of tragedy: Her 23-year-old son Jamal was also injured in the shooting. In 2002, another son, Lawrence, was killed; police say it was a suicide, but she believes he was killed. In 2008, her son Maurice, now 26, was sentenced to 20 years in prison on an assault charge. Now Kevin, who was shot in his head and hip, is learning to walk and talk again.
