A Tuesday morning fire in a Largo home sent one man to the hospital and killed two cats, Prince George’s fire authorities said.
The fire started at around 7 a.m. in the 800 block of Falcon Drive, officials said. Smoke billowed out of the basement of a two-story home, where a man in his 20s escaped. The man, who suffered burns and smoke inhalation, was sent to the hospital but will survive, fire officials said. The fire displaced a total of four adults, officials said.
After crews put out the fire, they evacuated four family pets from the house. Three cats “were found lifeless and resuscitative efforts were initiated,” but only one cat survived, according to a statement from Prince George’s Fire. A dog rescued from the fire is in good condition.
Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.
