Laurel area fire displaces 24 on Christmas Eve

On Tuesday, one misfortune led to another: A fire in the Laurel area displaced 24 people on Christmas Eve, and a hose fell from a fire engine on the way to the late-afternoon blaze, damaging cars and causing an injury.

Mark E. Brady, a spokesman for the Prince George’s County fire department, said that the fire in the 8800 block of Hunting Lane apparently stemmed from a furnace problem.

It caused about $45,000 in damage, he said.

Brady said the hose fell on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway near Route 197 and damaged several northbound vehicles.
