A veteran Loudoun County art teacher is facing charges of possessing and distributing child pornography, authorities said.

Ralph Watts Conrad III, 43, of Hamilton taught most recently at Algonkian Elementary School in Sterling, but he also filled in as an art teacher at other elementary schools in the county in recent years, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said.

At this point, no Loudoun schoolchildren are involved in the case, the sheriff’s office said. Conrad has been a teacher in Loudoun County for 15 years.

Conrad was arrested Sept. 10 and was charged with one count of distribution of child pornography and two counts of possession of child pornography, the sheriff’s office said. He is on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the criminal charges.

Conrad has also taught at Belmont Station Elementary, Lowes Island Elementary, Frances Hazel Reid Elementary, Legacy Elementary, Mill Run Elementary and Creighton’s Corner Elementary.
