Man dies after single-vehicle accident on I-295 in Northeast Washington

A 28-year-old Maryland man died in a single-vehicle accident Monday night that snarled traffic on the Anacostia Freeway into Tuesday morning’s commute, according to D.C. police.

The accident occurred about 11:45 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-295 near East Capitol Street NE. Officer Araz Alali, a police spokesman, said the driver of a Chevrolet Camaro apparently lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle went into the woods, hitting several trees and shrubs, and overturned, police said.
