December 30, 2013

A man whose body was found in Manassas Park on Friday died in what police said they are investigating as a homicide.

The man was identified Sunday by Manassas Park police as Michael Harmon Cole, 38. Police said he lived in the 9400 block of Robin Lee Court, where he was found in a parking lot.

Cole was found after Manassas Park authorities were notified by the Prince William County police about 9:30 a.m. about what was described as a possible unattended death.

No information was immediately available about the cause of death. But police said late Friday that they suspected homicide. On Sunday, they described the death as a homicide.

Police said Cole was the father of two young children.

Online property records indicated that Cole bought a townhouse on Robin Lee Court in September. The records indicated that he had previously lived elsewhere in the Northern Virginia area.

Homicides are rare in Manassas Park, which is an independent city of about 16,000 residents in about 2.5 square miles. Online records indicate that no homicides were reported there in the five years between the beginning of 2008 and the start of this year. At least two were reported in the period beginning with 2001.
