Man in critical condition after stabbing at Ballston Metro stop

Metro Transit Police said the 28-year-old man who was stabbed Sunday night on the platform at the Ballston Metro station in Arlington is in “critical/stable condition” after undergoing surgery.

Officials said Sunday that they had two men in custody and had found a knife. One of the suspects in the incident is Jeffrey Kenneth Hicks, 52, of no fixed address. He has been charged with malicious wounding, according to Metro officials.

The incident started as a “verbal altercation that escalated into physical,” according to an e-mail Monday from Morgan D. Dye, a Metro spokeswoman.

She said the investigation is ongoing.
