Man killed, newborn in serious condition after Va. crash

A driver heading the wrong way on the Fairfax County Parkway hit another car head-on early Sunday morning, killing himself and causing a pregnant woman in the other vehicle to give birth to a baby that is now in serious condition.

The crash occurred north of Braddock Road around 1:40 a.m., Fairfax County police said. A preliminary investigation showed that 44-year-old Abraham Aragon, of Manassas, drove his Mazda MX3 Coupe northbound in the southbound lanes of the road. Some cars swerved out of the way to avoid crashes, police said, but the MX3 hit a 2002 Toyota Avalon carrying a couple from Camp Hill, Penn.

Aragon was pronounced dead at the scene. The 30-year-old driver of the Avalon and his 29-year-old wife suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash, but the woman went into early labor and gave birth to a baby girl. The newborn is being treated at a local hospital, police said.

Detectives are investigating whether alcohol played a role in the crash, police said.

Police ask that anyone with information about the crash call Crime Solvers by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS.
