Man fatally shot in apartment complex in Northeast Washington; another shot in Southeast

A man was fatally shot Friday morning in an apartment complex in the Kenilworth section of Northeast Washington, according to District police. It was one of two serious shootings in the District on Friday.

The victim from Kenilworth, described only as an adult male, was unconscious and not breathing when police arrived at the scene. Homicide detectives are investigating. A police spokeswoman confirmed that he died.

The shooting occurred about 9:40 a.m. in the 4500 block of Quarles Street NE. Authorities said the victim was found inside an apartment building, just off the Anacostia Freeway near the Maryland line.

Police said they were searching for a man wearing a red, black and white coat and black pants.

Later on Friday, about 2:45 p.m., police said an adult male was shot in the 1300 block of Stevens Road SE, in the Barry Farm neighborhood. Police said that victim was unconscious and not breathing, but did not immediately confirm if he died. The shooting was one block from where a man dressed as Santa was shot and wounded with a pellet gun while handing out gifts on Christmas Eve.

Friday morning’s shootings come two days after a 19-year-old man was fatally shot in the 1400 block of Howard Road SE, near the Anacostia Metro station. That shooting occurred in the afternoon. And on Monday night, the bodies of a man and woman were found inside a home on Girard Street in Northwest Washington. They had each been shot to death, according to police.
