A suspect wanted for a Prince George’s County murder from 1989 is now in custody after he was arrested in Georgia, police said.

A Georgia State Patrol trooper arrested Wayne Randolph Gilgeours last week for a minor traffic violation, according to Prince George’s County Police. Authorities suspect Gilgeours of fatally shooting Philbert Jones, 22, in Landover more than 24 years ago.

Gilgeours had a fake ID when he was pulled over, police said. But the Georgia state trooper who pulled him over used a portable fingerprint scanner to positively identify Gilgeours and see he was wanted in Prince George’s County in connection with Jones’s death.

Gilgeours is still in Georgia, and is expected to be transported to Prince George’s County, authorities said.
