Manassas-area man sets himself on fire, police say

A man set himself on fire behind a Manassas shopping center Monday morning, according to Prince William County police.

The man, who is from the Manassas area, suffered “severe, self-inflicted” wounds, said Officer Jonathan Perok, a police department spokesman. The incident occurred behind Westgate Plaza Shopping Center near a Giant on Sudley Road, Perok said.

The man was taken by helicopter to a burn center, and remains in critical condition, Perok said.

Perok said few people saw the incident, and no one else was injured.
