Pricey Nikes stolen from Charles County student inside school
By Martin Weil,
Coats are major targets for robbery, but shoes have not gone out of style, and authorities say two men went into a Charles County school and took an expensive pair.
Shortly after classes ended at North Point High on Thursday, two men, neither a student at the school, entered and approached a 17-year-old student, the county sheriff’s office said.
One man reached for his waistband, as if to indicate he was armed. A teacher confronted the man, who again reached toward his waist, the sheriff’s office said. The robbers took a pair of Nike Air Jordan 7 Retro Olympic Edition basketball shoes that the student was carrying, police said. Such shoes sell for $200 or $300 online.
Sneaker theft “is not uncommon, but a crime like this at our schools is rare,” said Sheriff Rex W. Coffey.
Two men were taken into custody shortly afterward, the sheriff’s office said, and one was charged with robbery.
