Off-duty cop shoots would-be robber at his home in Prince George’s County

A 26-year-old Southeast woman will face charges in an attempted armed robbery of an off-duty D.C. police officer outside his home in Prince George’s County.

Police said the incident began early Sunday when the officer had just arrived at his house on Hope Drive in the Temple Hills area. Ashley Tomika McCrae of the 3500 block of Sixth Street SE, who had a shotgun, approached him and “made demands,” according to county police.

The officer shot McCrae, who then fled in a car, police said. Police were later called to a D.C. hospital for a patient who walked in with gunshot wounds. Detectives linked McCrae to the attempted robbery of the off-duty police officer.

McCrae remains hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, police said. The off-duty police officer was not injured.
