Police arrest Alexandria man accused of sexual assault at drugstore

A man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after sexually assaulting a woman inside an Alexandria CVS and attempting to remove her underwear, according to police.

Police were called to the pharmacy at 3120 Duke St. at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday on a report of a man reaching underneath the skirt of a woman and attempting to remove her underwear.

Police arrested Abayneh Yemer, 25, of Alexandria, at the scene. He is being held with bond on a charge of sexual battery and attempted object sexual penetration.

“Something that’s obviously a violation occurred, and we got him right away” because the victim called police immediately, Alexandria police spokeswoman Crystal Nosal said.
