Police identify D.C. officer found dead in apartment

Authorities have identified the D.C. police officer found dead inside an apartment in Southeast Washington on Saturday as 56-year-old Johnny Jones.

Police said in a news release that there were “no signs of trauma, indications of foul play, or obvious unusual circumstances” in the officer’s death, though they were awaiting results from a medical examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Officials said Jones was found about 3:15 p.m. Saturday at an apartment in the 2600 block of Martin Luther King Avenue SE, after he failed to show up for work.
