Police investigate suspicious death in Alexandria

Alexandria police are investigating what they say is a suspicious death that occurred Monday on the 200 block of Elm Street.

A 69-year-old man was found unconscious by a relative on Monday afternoon. Medics pronounced him dead on the scene.

“It’s not apparently natural,” said police spokeswoman Ashley Hildebrandt. “That gives us reason to investigate it further.”

The cause and manner of death have not yet been determined, and the investigation is ongoing. The man’s name was not immediately released, pending notification of next of kin.

Alexandria Police Chief Earl L. Cook said the home is in a “very safe neighborhood.”
