Police look into stabbing of man at Silver Spring apartment

Montgomery County authorities have arrested a 31-year-old man on three charges related to a stabbing attack inside a Silver Spring apartment early Thursday.

Officers found a man, suffering from apparent stab wounds, shortly after midnight in a second-floor apartment on Piney Branch Road. The victim, who was not immediately identified by police, was stabbed multiple times and taken to an area hospital, where he was in critical condition late Thursday, police said.

Authorities charged Ulises A. Blanco-Melgar, of no fixed address, with one count of attempted first degree murder, one count of first degree assault and one count of second degree assault.

A witness, who saw a man running from the apartment after the stabbing, followed the man in a car and led officers to him, a Montgomery County police press release said.

Blanco-Melgar is being held without bond, police said. A bond review hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at Rockville District Court, officials said.
