Prince George’s County police search for man in attack on Mitchellville jogger

Prince George’s County police are searching for a man who assaulted a Mitchellville jogger with a stick.

Authorities said the man hit a female jogger several times with a stick during her Thursday morning run near the 1500 block of Silverado Court. After the attack, he ran into the woods at the end of Golf Course Drive, police said.

The jogger called police to the residential community around 6:20 a.m. Thursday. She told officers she was heading home when she saw a man dressed in black standing in front of her.

The man hit her in the head with the stick, then continued to hit her several more times before she fought him off, according to a department press release.

Police said the victim was taken to a hospital and later released.

The man wore a black hat, black hooded sweatshirt, black shirt, black backpack and black running pants with a white stripe, the release said. Authorities, who said this is the first type of incident reported in the area, are working to establish a motive.

Police ask that anyone with information about the attack call the Prince George’s County Police Department’s regional investigation division at (301) 772-4910.
