A man who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman and teen in Prince George’s County in two separate attacks on the same day is also accused of robbing two other women at a bus stop in Montgomery County about 10 hours later, authorities said. The suspect is also allegedly connected to a sexual assault in Montgomery County earlier this year, police said.
Prince George’s County police announced charges Monday against 33-year-old Emerito Chicas-Savala of Silver Spring for allegedly sexually assaulting and robbing two females at gunpoint in a wooded area near Belcrest Road in Chillum.
The attacks of the woman and 14-year-old girl occurred within 20 minutes of each other about 100 yards away at about 1 p.m. on Oct. 29. Then at about midnight on the same day, Montgomery County police received a call from two women in Colesville who said three men tried to rob them at knife point and gunpoint. The description of one of the men sounded similar to the suspected attacker in Prince George’s, according to charging documents.
Montgomery County police arrested Chicas-Savala shortly after the report of the bus stop robbery, but it wasn’t until a DNA match and the help of a composite sketch from the Prince George’s County police artists that detectives connected the cases to Chicas-Savala, said Julie Parker, a spokeswoman for the Prince George’s County police department.
“It was a DNA hit that led detectives to this person,” Parker said. “They collected DNA from here in Prince George’s and connected that DNA to a 2013 sex assault case in Montgomery County.”
If found guilty of the various assault and robbery charges, Chicas-Savala faces up to life in prison, Parker said.
