Two suspects held up seven men at gunpoint Saturday near Georgia Avenue NW, police said. Police said they stopped one as he ran away and arrested a second suspect after a search.

The holdup, which occurred about 12:30 a.m. in the 900 block of Gallatin Street NW was one of a series of sometimes violent robberies that have occurred in the past week week within a few square miles in the northern part of the District, east of Rock Creek Park. .

Several women who posted to a community list-serve decried what they called an alarming spike in robberies there. The head of the police department’s 4th District said in a post that robberies would be discussed at a community meeting Thursday.

Among the earlier incidents, one occurred on Oct. 7 when two people dragged a motorist from a vehicle on 4th Street NW, beat him and then stole the car.

On Oct. 8, police made an arrest in a gunpoint robbery in an alley on Quebec Place NW.

That same night, in the 5000 block of Third Street NW, two suspects, claiming to have a knife, punched and kicked a victim after demanding his cell phone. One suspect was later arrested, police said.

In one of several holdups in that general area on Tuesday, a robber followed his victim into an apartment house on 13th Street NW, knocked him down, punched him in the eye, and fled with cash.

Later Tuesday, a robber pointed a gun at a pedestrian in the 4100 block of 14th Street NW, took property and then stabbed the victim. The wound was not life-threatening, police said.
