A man who pleaded guilty to assaulting and robbing an 84-year-old woman in her Prince George’s home last year has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.
A Maryland judge sentenced 57-year-old Rodney William Blanton to 15 years for robbery and 10 years for first-degree burglary, according to the Prince George’s County state’s attorney’s office.
“I am pleased that Mr. Blanton has accepted responsibility for his actions and will no longer be able to prey on our citizens,” Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks said in a statement announcing the sentence.
Blanton forced his way into the woman’s home after he knocked on the door pretending to be a neighbor, the statement said. He stuffed a scarf into the elderly woman’s mouth and robbed her. She spent more than 24 hours lying on the floor before someone found her. During the assault, the woman bit Blanton, and police found his blood at the scene.
