Sexual assault attempt on child, 9, reported in New Carrollton; victim is reported unharmed

A 9-year old boy was grabbed and thrown to the ground Sunday in New Carrollton by a man who tried to sexually assault him, authorities said.

The child broke free and fled, and was not injured in the attack, which occurred about 8:30 a.m. in the 8400 block of Annapolis Road, according to the New Carrollton police department. New Carrollton is a city of about 12,000 in central Prince George’s County. The street where the incident occurred is in a largely commercial area.

New Carrollton police said the subject was described as a black man in his 20s, about 6 feet tall, who wore red shorts and a black shirt with a cartoon on its front, with yellow in it. He had a close-cropped beard that could be described as trimmed stubble.
