Silver Spring man found slain inside his home

February 21, 2014

A 65-year-old man was found slain inside his Silver Spring house Thursday, Montgomery County police officials said Friday.

Authorities identified the man as Phillip F. Welsh, of the 2000 block of Hanover Street. They declined to specify how he was killed. Detectives have not arrested anyone in the case.

Police were called to Welsh’s home — about one mile north of downtown Silver Spring — shortly after 2:30 p.m. Thursday. A coworker, who was concerned Welsh had not come to work that day, had gone to check on him. On Friday, the medical examiner’s office ruled the death a homicide.

Police said anyone with information about the case can call 240-773-5070.
