Teenager struck by train in Laurel identified

November 21, 2013

Police identified a teenager who was struck and killed Tuesday by a passing train on the CSX/MARC tracks in Laurel.

Dontay Lamont Owensby, 19, of the 8700 block of Dulwick Court, was found dead when police arrived on the scene after receiving a report of a body in the 800 block of Lafayette Avenue in Laurel, an area that local fire officials said is known as a place where people crossed the train tracks to take a shortcut.

Officials with the Maryland Transportation Authority said a MARC train driver had seen a person, matching a description of Owensby, “running along the tracks” just south of the Laurel MARC train station in Prince George’s County.

Owensby was struck by a train heading north, according to officials. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
