People targeted by unexpected fundraising appeals are urged to get something in writing. In Maryland on Friday, a man who was asked for money got a phone number, called it, and got a surprise.
In a store parking lot on Crain Highway in Glen Burnie, the Anne Arundel County police said, the man heard a phone ring in the pocket of one of those who had asked for money, and he “believed this to be suspicious.”
Police were called, and two people were arrested on a fraud charge, police said. Police said the man had been asked to help the “Support Our Troops Foundation” but the suspect did not represent it.
