Two Eastern Shore, Md., men arrested in spate of summer-home burglaries in Delaware

February 8

In summer, many Washington residents vacation in Sussex County, Del., on the Atlantic Ocean. In fall, however, summer homes are vacated, and late last year, authorities said, dozens were burglarized.

Delaware State Police said they began investigating in November after “seasonal homes” in Sussex County were broken into and televisions and other electronics were taken. Sites included such resort towns as Bethany Beach, Fenwick Island, Ocean View and Selbyville.

The police said last week that they first arrested one man from Maryland’s Eastern Shore after a burglary near Ocean View.

Police eventually placed 247 charges against him, including burglary and theft, they said.

The investigation led them to arrest a second Eastern Shore man, also on 247 charges, including burglary and theft, according to police.

Delaware police said each man was being held in Delaware on $629,500 bond.

With the arrests, police said they “were able to clear a total of 88 burglaries.”
