Two-week-old girl dies after being found unconscious in Northeast Washington apartment

Authorities are investigating the death of a two-week-old girl whose mother reported finding the infant with a bloody nose early Thursday, according to D.C. police.

The name of the victim was not immediately released. A cause o f death is pending the results of an autopsy.

Officer Araz Alali said the mother told detectives that she returned about 3:30 a.m. to her home in the 5100 block of Just Street NE and found her baby unconscious and bleeding from the nose. Police said an adult male had been with the child.

Alali said the infant was pronounced dead at 4:05 a.m. at an area hospital. The investigation is continuing.
