The incident occurred at about 4:30 a.m. on Jan. 1 when police were called to Bell and Evans’s home on the 5500 block of Karen Elaine Drive for a shooting, police said. There, they found Smith suffering from a gunshot wound. He died shortly after police arrived.

Prince George’s County police said the investigation preliminarily reveals that a confrontation broke out after Smith went to the Karen Elaine Drive home.

The women fled the scene after the shooting, police said, but were later arrested at a family member’s home in Laurel. Police said they are still investigating who fired the weapon.
