Victim’s daughter arrested in killing of Washington nurse

Spotsylvania County authorities have arrested one of the daughters of a MedStar Washington Hospital Center nurse in connection with the nurse’s slaying.

The county sheriff’s office said Alaina Mercer, 25, was arrested in the fatal shooting of her mother, Nancy Mercer. Another woman, Christina Brown, 25, also was arrested, they said.

Sheriff’s Capt. Jeff Pearce said Alaina Mercer and Brown are married.

Authorities said Nancy Mercer and her daughter had “domestic issues,” which led to the slaying.

Alaina Mercer and Brown have been held in jail without bond.

Nancy Mercer, 58, was found on the floor of her home on Eastridge Way after she didn’t show up for work on May 18.
