Woman sexually assaulted, robbed in Petworth near Metro station

D.C. police are searching for a man who sexually assaulted and robbed a woman early Sunday in the Petworth neighborhood of Northwest Washington, according to authorities.

The attack occurred about 3 a.m. near 10th and Quebec streets, two blocks west of the Georgia Avenue-Petworth Metro station, according to police. It occurred adjacent to or in an elementary school playground.

Police said the woman reported that she was walking when she was grabbed from behind by a man who put his arm around her neck and forced her to the ground. After sexually assaulting her, police said he took several items of hers. Police did not elaborate.

Police did not have a complete description, saying only that the man was of an unknown race, medium build and standing about 5 feet 8 or 5 feet 9 inches tall. He was wearing a black or blue hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
