Abandoned dog removed: Ivanhoe St. SW, 100 block, July 26. The Humane Society removed an extremely matted dog that was living in unsanitary conditions in an apartment.

Owner notified: Simms Pl. NE, 1200 block, July 30. A responding Humane Society officer left a notice for an owner of two dogs that were tied outdoors in a filthy area with access to only a small amount of water and shade.

Walking for a reason: Pennsylvania Ave. NW, 1300 block, July 28. A Humane Society officer responding to a call about dogs that were walking with protesters in a parade. The officer met with one of the dog owners, who said they all had water for their pets and were taking breaks in the shade.

Adoptable cat: R St. NW, 1400 block, June 8. Property management surrendered a 1-year-old cat that an owner left in an apartment.

New York stray: Chevy Chase, Leland St., 3800 block, July 24. A woman relinquished a 2-year-old cat to the league. She had found the cat outside her door at a motel in New York and could not find its owner.

Dog bitten: Bryan Pl. SE, 2200 block, July 25. A woman took a 5-year-old German shepherd mix to the league’s medical center because the animal had been bitten in the face by another dog. The dog was treated and sent home.

Injured dog treated: T St. SE, 1300 block, July 31. A woman took a 1-year-old Yorkshire terrier to the league’s medical center after it was hit by a car. The dog had no broken bones but was treated for severe abrasion injuries.

2nd Annual Adopt-A-Thon: The Washington Animal Rescue League is offering cats and dogs with a “Name Your Price” adoption fee from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. Animals are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed or neutered. For information, visit www.warl.org.
