Sick dog investigation: Staples St. NE, 1200 block, Dec. 18. A Humane Society officer responded to a call about a 7-year-old chow mix that was suffering from pyometra. A veterinarian had noticed that the dog was underweight.

Owner has limited resources: 14th St. NW, 6100 block, Dec. 18. A Humane Society officer responding to a call about three dogs in a home with no power or water met with an owner who surrendered an injured American bulldog that had been in a fight with one of the dogs.

Home in chaos: Bonini Rd. SE, 700 block, Dec. 23. Humane Society officers found five dogs kept in a home in unsanitary conditions. One of the dogs had wounds from a dog fight. Three of the dogs were surrendered, and the owners were advised to improve living conditions for the remaining animals.

Stray previews home sale: Tuckerman St. NW, unit block, Dec. 17. Humane Society officers found an American bulldog mix trapped inside a screened porch of a vacant house for sale.

Deer hunter sought: First Pl. SW, 4000 block, Dec. 19. Animal control officers found a buck with an arrow in its chest in a back yard. The sedated animal was taken to a veterinarian, where it was humanely euthanized. Anyone with information on who may have injured the deer is encouraged to call 202-723-5730, Ext. 132.

Adoptable dogs: New York Ave., 1200 block, Sept. 10. A 3-year-old pit bull mix was found abandoned in a building and taken to the shelter.

Georgia Ave., 7300 block, Sept. Another pit bull mix, 10 months old, was found alone in an apartment and surrendered by a landlord.
