Police probe 2 fatal shootings in D.C. and a slaying in Prince George’s

By and ,

Two people were shot and killed Saturday in the District, and Prince George’s County reported its sixth homicide of the week.

One of the homicides in the District occurred about 1 a.m. outside a nightclub in the Shaw area, and an arrest was quickly made. Police closed the club for 96 hours.

The man who was killed in that shooting was identified by police as Joseph Hardin, 30, of Alexandria. Police said the shooting occurred in the 1900 block of Ninth Street NW.

It occurred after the man was involved in an argument at the 1920dc club, according to the club’s manager, who did not wish to be quoted by name.

The manager said the argument had apparently been settled before the man left the club. It was about 30 minutes after the quarrel subsided when the manager described going outside to investigate a commotion.

The man “was yelling at three other gentlemen” whom the manager did not recognize. The confrontation involved only shouting and yelling. No punches were thrown, the manager said.

The assailant approached the man from across the street, the manager said.

He “came from T Street toward the guy,” the manager said, insisting that the assailant had not been inside the club. The assailant wore a mask and hoodie, the manager added.

Police said Cedric Spicer, 24, of Northwest Washington was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

The manager expressed acceptance of the emergency authority of D.C. police chief Cathy L. Lanier to close bars and clubs and said that the closing would not be contested. However, the manager called the closing unwarranted. “We feel it’s unfair due to the facts,” the manager said.

In the second D.C. shooting, police said Damon Luke Brown, 49, of Ashburn was found slain in the 300 block of Livingston Terrace SE just before 3 a.m.

In the Prince George’s shooting, a man was found fatally stabbed in the 8100 block of Riggs Road, in the Langley Park area.
