D.C. police seek robbers targeting money couriers

D.C. police are looking for two men who robbed four money couriers as they walked to banks to make deposits in Northeast Washington this month.

Authorities released a video of one of three attacks that occurred in the 1300 block of 4th St. NE. It shows a man coming up behind woman and grabbing something out of her bag. No weapon were used in any of the robberies, police said.

Three occurred in the District’s wholesale district off Florida Avenue, near the NoMa-Gallaudet University Metro station. The area is a collection of large warehouse selling a wide variety of food and other items to stores, restaurants and individual customers.

The three robberies on 4th St. Northeast occurred Aug. 12, Aug. 23 and Aug. 27, between 10:40 a.m and nearly 4 p.m. Police said another robbery linked to the group occurred about 10:40 a.m. on Aug. 26 in the 2100 block of Bladensburg Road NE, about two miles east off New York Avenue.

Anyone with information is urged to call D.C. police at 202-727-9099 or text the department’s tip line at 50411. Authorities are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
