Rallying for D.C. autonomy

Residents and activists gathered in Lafayette Park, across from the White House, to give President Obama a message: Stand up for the District and against congressional efforts to reduce its autonomy.

Many in the District are still smarting over the short-term spending measure President Obama signed in April. The bill prohibited the District from using its own taxpayer funds to provide abortions to low-income women, a concession Obama reportedly made to House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio).
